For the first time ever Antenna is heading outdoors to present Doc In The Park, a live music and screening event in Glebe's Foley Park, in collaboration with the Glebe Chamber of Commerce.

Performing on the day will be one of Australia’s most iconic ‘80s bands, Strange Tenants. In the wake of British 2 Tone groups like The Specials and Madness, the band emerged from working class Melbourne to be dubbed “The Godfathers of Australian ska”. Their original, politically driven songs were rallying cries against poverty (Hard Times), the evils of war (Soldier Boy) and fascism (Two Steps Back), while independently released records like Take One Step (1983) featuring signature tune Grey Skies (Over Collingwood) sold in large numbers, despite their determined independence. Energetic performances and relentless touring earned them a loyal following of rude boys and rude girls and now, three decades later, they are back performing and releasing music, with their commitment to social justice still strong.

As the subjects of Australian director Fiona Cochrane’s new documentary, Ska’d For Life (page 22), Antenna is thrilled to bring the band to town for a rare Sydney performance, alongside an open-air screening of this new film chronicling their history and significant contribution to Australian music.

Grab a picnic rug or fold-up chair and join us on the grass for an all-ages afternoon/evening that will also feature DJs playing Jamaican rhythms, food trucks and drinks.
