Obscuro Barroco is a film about the dizzying heights of gender and metamorphosis that’s also a cinematic homage to a land of extremes: the city of Rio de Janeiro. Following the path of iconic transgender figure Luana Muniz (1961- 2017), the film explores different quests for the self through transvestism, Carnival and political struggle. In turn, it looks at the desire for transformation of the body, both intimate and social. Director Evangelia Kranioti follows up her feature debut Exotica, Erotica, Etc. (Antenna 2015) with another sexy, hypnotic, provocative and, above all, beautiful film about the nonconformists of the world.
