My Father is My Mother's Brother
Can a queer Ukrainian underground musician, whose art is about personal freedom and sexual openness, become a father and still be himself? Winner of the Most Innovative Feature Award at Visions du Réel, My Father Is My Mother's Brother tells the story of artist and singer Tolik, who unexpectedly acquires a daughter, Katya, from his unemployed and psychologically troubled sister. With Katya, his world is suddenly filled with the day-to-day responsibilities of a single parent. As a deep bond forms between Tolik and his adorable niece, we witness a family changing forever. This touching and powerful documentary swings between daily domesticity and bohemian performances, showing us that fragility and strength, light and shadow can harmoniously cohabit the same space.
