Once, he led an empire that ruled over half the world. Now, at 90, he’s a good-humoured, gregarious old man, trailed around his empty villa by an elderly cat. Despite this, Mikhail Gorbachev – the architect behind one of the 20th century’s greatest revolutions – remains as sharp-tongued and eloquent as ever. In Gorbachev. Heaven acclaimed director Vitaly Mansky (Putin‘s Witnesses, Antenna 2018) paints an intimate portrait of the former world leader as the pair discuss not only the immense historical and political impact of his decision to disband the Soviet Union, but also his personal life. Jokes, spontaneous interruptions and half-remembered folk songs inject lightness into this meeting of two great minds. History will judge Gorbachev, but here he presents his own, final testimony.

Co-presented with Russian Resurrection Film Festival.

An exclusive interview with director Vitaly Mansky will follow the Monday 7 February screening.
